Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed

"To our faithful departed, grant Lord eternal rest; and let the eternal light shine before their eyes."

On the second of November, we remember all the faithful departed and include them in our prayers. Family members and relatives should offer prayers, masses and petitions for their departed loved ones. It is also recommended to visit the cemetery where a family member or loved one has been buried, bringing flowers, candles and spending sometime in prayer. Though remembering a departed loved one can be done more often by prayers, petitions and visiting the cemetery, all souls day is a special occassion to recall the name of the departed loved one and reminiscing his or her life especially the time spent with him/her when the person was living.

As we pray for the faithful departed, we also ask them to pray for us just as we ask the saints to intercede for us in heaven. This is our communion with the faithful departed and the saints.

To pray for the faithful departed say the following prayers

1. The Apostles' Creed

2. Our Father

3. Hail Mary

4. Glory be

5. Hail Holy Queen

6. Grant eternal rest unto (name of the faithful departed); and let perpetual light shine upon him/her. May he/she rest in peace.

7. May the soul of (name of the faithful departed) and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

Remember your departed loved ones. May they find rest and be accepted in the heavenly Kingdom of our Father. If it is possible write their names and really think of them for a moment. If you want your family member, relative or friend to be remembered in prayer, you can write their names on the comment part of this blog or send their names in a private message.God bless you and may you have a meaningful reminiscing of your departed family members, relatives and friends.
